CAMPAIGN SPOTLIGHT: Trevor Powell, Volunteer Vacationer
Planning for volunteer vacation continues and we’re hearing from current volunteers about their experiences with the program and why they got involved.
Trevor Powell is originally from New Jersey. He is a 23-year-old history student at Temple University and was involved in the 2009 campaign for marriage in Maine by way of phone banking. He is studying progressive movements in U.S. history and hopes to someday become a history professor.
“The campaign in Maine this year is exciting,” said Trevor, “It is a hearts-and-minds campaign.”
Trevor worked on a marriage bill in New Jersey and is active in the LGBT community on campus. He hopes to motivate students on his campus to participate in phone banks during election season.
“Traveling around to different campaigns has really inspired me to use my vacation time advocating for marriage. I’ve seen people travel all around the country working on marriage initiatives. They inspire me to travel as well,” said Trevor.
He hopes to come back in the nine days leading up to Election Day, if his professors will let him out of class.
