Pat and Dan Lawson’s Story

Aug 21, 2012

We were so excited to see the public education ad from GLAD and Why Marriage Matters Maine air this morning throughout the state.

The ad features the personal story of Pat and Dan Lawson of Monroe.

Pat and Dan explain the importance of marriage for all loving committed couples.

Their story underscores the types of testimonies we’ve seen and heard in conversations around the state.

Pat and Dan have been married for twenty-nine years. They are the proud parents of four children, including two twin sons, one of whom is gay.

“You know you’ve got to love your child no matter what,” said Dan, “If my son finds someone that he's in love with, and wants to create a bond that's going to last a lifetime, that's marriage in my mind.”

Dan has been employed at the Verso Paper Mill in Bucksport for twenty-two years. Pat has worked for sixteen years as Treasurer for the town of Monroe. Both are the children of military families.
